Offered once/week on Sundays 8-9:30am, the Led Primary Series Class is a 90 minute class in which the teacher leads the students through the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga with Pranayama. Chai/coffee social follows after the class.

Intro/Beginner Mysore Class

Beginners to Mysore Ashtanga yoga are required to attend an Intro Class for 1 week to get an orientation of the method and practice and experience learning the Primary Sequence in the Mysore room under the individual guidance of an experienced Mysore teacher.

  • Why Moon Days in Ashtanga Yoga?

Traditionally the āsana and prāṇāyāma portions of Ashtanga Yoga were not practiced on Full or New Moon days. These are days when the position of the Sun and Moon are in alignment with the earth causing a stronger gravitational pull along a single axis. Energetically these are good days to rest and when āsana practice is done daily, the extra rest day is helpful for restoration and reflection.

  • Why do our Moon Days Sometimes Seem a Day Early?

We follow the calculation system based on the lunar calendar used in South India. This system also calculates the beginning of the day from sunrise, not from midnight. Hence, if the Full or New Moon occurs after midnight but before sunrise it will still be considered to have occurred on the previous calendar day. For example, if the Full Moon occurs at 3am on a Tuesday, since it is before sunrise it is considered as occurring the previous day, Monday.
